The standard 17000K impeller has been replaced by a threaded/thru-key design. This feature allows the impeller to be pulled out of the pump with the use of the 23631 impeller puller (3/4"-16 UNF bolt with handle), while maintaining the ease of replacement of the thru-key design. The impeller puller simply threads into the impeller insert and pushes against the shaft, which jacks the impeller out of the housing. To assist the installation process, the impeller blades can be compressed with a wire tie or equivalent fastener. The impeller can be placed in the pump and the thru-key design allows the operator to rotate the impeller until the keyways align. The key can then be replaced, the rubber cap secured in the impeller to prevent key walk-out and therefore pump damage, and the wire ties or other fastener removed after impeller installation.
The 17000K upgrade uses the best features of the previous 17000 impellers rolled into one - the threaded/thru-key version - now standard on the 17000K original equipment impeller kit.
